AIDS charity fashion show, Daria’s bday, picnic, Placebo, Halloween bake party

READ THIS TEXT BEFORE LOOKING AT THE PICTURES–THE SARCASTIC CAPTIONS WILL MAKE WAY MORE SENSE! (Hilary, if any of this sounds familiar, that’s because I’m saving time by copying and pasting from the email I sent you, ha!!)

Last October a bunch of local designers including myself donated 3-4 outfits each to be shown at an AIDS charity event, to be sold afterwards with proceeds going to AIDS Coalition. The event itself was rad, but the fashion show… man oh man!!!

The first thing that went wrong was when we were told there would be a whole team of makeup artists there, but there was really only one guy. Show was to start at 9, but since this poor guy was doing all the makeup by himself, there was no way he’d be able to finish even half the models. At 8:45, we were told that the show would start on time, and if the models weren’t ready, then too bad! Everyone freaked out and started doing their own makeup. It was dark and there were hardly any mirrors, so it was just whatever the hell you could slap on your face in the dark in 30 seconds. On top of that, one of my models was sick. We had to replace her with Sinh, who was terrified because there were no rehearsals so she had no idea what the hell to do.

There were about 5 designers–I was supposed to go on 2nd. But we weren’t ready, so they started anyway and SKIPPED ME!!! With makeup only halfway done, my models and I ran up two flights of stairs to get to the stage. By the time we got up there, huffing and puffing, the show was over, but we made it just in time to go on last.

Sinh went first. She has never modeled in her whole life, and THERE WAS NO RUNWAY (!!!), so she had no idea what to do or where to go. Not only did no one cheer, but Kevin said some girls in the audience looked at Sinh’s outfit and started laughing. Then Daria went next, and again, no cheers. Eric went last, and it was so quiet you could hear crickets!!!!! Chirp chirp!

Then all the designers put their clothes on a rack, and I got the first shift working the clothing sales. But since the crowd was 99.99999999999999% preppy gay MEN, of course no one was even remotely interested in buying anything!!!!!!!!!!! At the end of the nite none of the designers sold anything, so we all just took our clothes home. The only person who expressed any interest in my clothes was some chick who came up to tell me that my $150 asking price was a ripoff (even though 100% of that money would be going to charity)!

After the show, the organizer, who is really sweet, gave me a big bag of coffee beans, which I had to carry around with me while dancing. I felt incredibly suave.

We ended up having a crazy amount of fun regardless. It was definitely the wrong crowd for my clothing, but thank god my friends have a sense of humour! By the way, I am in no way talking shit about AIDS Coalition or Splash Bar, who are all awesome people. I am 100% making fun of myself and how much everyone hated my portion of the fashion show. Please don’t sue me!! :-D

We found these sombreros backstage. Eric was so bored, he kept threatening to wear one in the show. I should have let him cuz it’s not like anyone was watching the show anyway, HA!!
