Sugarpill Makeover Party at Shibuya Girls Pop “Real Japanese Kawaii” Reception at Giant Robot

After driving to L.A. almost every week this past year for events, it was fun making my friends drive up to my neck o’ the woods for a change. Giant Robot in San Francisco hosted “Real Japanese Kawaii,” a group show by Tokyo-based artist collective Shibuya Girls Pop. To celebrate the opening reception, we had Sugarpill giveaways and a makeover booth!

Q Pop Grand Opening Party, Bar Sinister, Idiot Shoes

Last January, we drove down to LA for the grand opening party at Q Pop, a supercute shop and art gallery that carries the most adorable Japanese clothing, accessories, and handmade goods. The store was so ridiculously packed that it ended up turning into a colorful outdoor street party. So much fun!

Interview in Thestifledartist

Thanks to my fellow Oakland girlie Kyrsten Bean (coolest name ever) for being kind enough to interview me for Thestifledartist! I don’t know why it took me five paragraphs to answer the first question, I get carried away sometimes.

Sarah and Matt’s Engagement Party at Bubble Lounge

My sister Sarah got married on Wednesday, so that probably means I should post the pics from her engagement party last December, right? :-D

Matt proposed to Sarah at the Cliff House. It was supposed to be a surprise, but I think she was suspicious when he wore a suit, booked a super nice hotel, and told her to pack her bags for the weekend. (She said yes anyway). Afterward, he took her to the Bubble Lounge, where there was a surprise party waiting. That time, smarty pants was genuinely surprised.

Hella Gay and How to Make Creeps Go Away

It had been ages since we last went out dancing, so Jade, Tess and I decided to make a quick stop at Hella Gay one night. I stay “quick stop” because Jade is a huge grandma who likes to be home and in bed by midnight.

Interview in The Idler

I was recently interviewed by my fellow Ron Perlman-loving friend, Rosemary, for The Idler. We’ve known each other for so long that it’s hilarious seeing her call me by my last name in this article! Also while reading this, it occurred to me how much I cuss lately. Sorry. I need to get that shit in check!

Picture of me on top right was taken by my friend Rachael for her jewelry line. Just thought I’d mention that because taken out of context, I look like I’m descending from the heavens to present the world with a donut ring. Which I guess wouldn’t be so bad either.

Click to read the interview if you’re not tired of me yet!

Thanks, Van Deuren!

XOXO

Jessica’s Birthday Party at Cinebar

Jessica came home for her birthday and wanted to celebrate at Dave & Busters in Milpitas. If you grew up in Milpitas like we did, you’ll understand the love/hate relationship we all have with that place. The food is terrible, the drinks are weak and overpriced, it’s located inside of a MALL, and the creepy male to cute female ratio is about 500 to 1. But every few years someone will feel nostalgic (usually Jessica), so we’ll go back for some good old-fashioned ghetto fun.

The only thing sadder than going to Dave & Busters is trying to go to Dave & Busters and not being able to get in. They wouldn’t accept Kevin’s ID because it had JUST expired, which is hilarious because at 41 he was the oldest out of all of us! We crowded around and tried to rally for his age (”Look at his white hair! See? He’s soooo old!”) but that didn’t work. While loitering in the parking lot trying to figure out where to go next, a drunk guy asked Irene if she was Nicki Minaj (being Chinese and all, they look exactly alike), and another guy came up to tell us, “You girls sure are funny looking.” So yeah, that’s a pretty accurate sampling of the type of guys who hang out at Dave & Busters.

We went to Cinebar in downtown San Jose instead.
