Urban Ore Toilet Adventures with Amelia Arsenic

Do you have that one friend who is so artistic, smart, talented and beautiful, that it just doesn’t seem fair? Yet you CAN’T be jealous or hate her because she’s soooo sweet and likable that she’d give you the shirt off her back? So one day you catch her pushing a shopping cart through a yard full of discarded centuries-old toilets, and you decide to take pictures –lots of them– and post them on the internet. BECAUSE IT’S ONLY FAIR THAT WAY! Hey, I’m just doing my fair share to create balance in the world.

Meet Amelia. I recently discovered Urban Ore, my new favorite place to treasure-hunt in Oakland. They sell everything you can possibly wrap your pretty little mind around. We’re always on the lookout for odd photo shoot props, and knew Amelia would appreciate the sheer awesomeness of this place as well.

Sakura-Con 2011, Part 2: 6%DOKIDOKI Fashion Show, Pike Place Fish Market

Our second day at Sakura-Con was a crazy whirlwind of colorful fun and action. It was the day of 6%DOKIDOKI’s biggest fashion show yet, and we were so nervous when we saw the size of the auditorium! I have to say: the models were simply amazing, and even with very little time to rehearse they NAILED it. I was so proud of everyone!

We woke up at the buttcrack of dawn. It was so dark and cold outside that Candace had to drag me out of my warm comfy hotel bed kicking and screaming.

Sakura-Con 2011, Part 1: Sixh/H.Naoto and 6%DOKIDOKI, Dinner at the Seattle Space Needle

When our friends at 6%DOKIDOKI asked Sugarpill to join them in Seattle to do makeup for their fashion show at Sakura-Con, we were thrilled. I hadn’t visited Seattle in over a decade (and even then, it was with my mom so it doesn’t count), I’d never been to Sakura-Con, and we always have so much fun working with 6%DOKIDOKI!

We flew in on Friday night and met up with the gang at a restaurant by the hotel. Our waiter was so smitten by Vani and Yuka! I told him I’d email him this photo, but I already forgot where we were so I don’t know how to track him down. Oops!

California Academy of Sciences “NightLife” and Claude my Angel Abino Alligator Love of my Life

Every Thursday night, the California Academy of Sciences closes its doors to host “Adult Night,” where old farts like us get to see cool stuff without being mobbed by crowds and children. My sisters and I decided to check it out. Love the bar, but I think they went overboard with the super loud club music blasting in every room.

RAW Artist Showcase featuring Kerli and Pretty Star Clothing, Cafe Jack Titanic/Christmas Themed Korean Restaurant

Last April, my friend Kaila asked if Sugarpill wanted to sponsor the RAW Artist showcase featuring two of my friends, Kerli and Pretty Star Clothing. We were still recovering from Magical Girls weekend, but “work” is always a good excuse to see my friends again!

Me, Pretty Star designer Laura, and Yume, with Kevin creepin’ in the background! Laura made the adorable leopard dress I’m wearing. It’s so cute and comfy!
