Message from Patrick:
dear shrinkle
i’ve been chosen to photograph a feature for an upstart magazine in LA, vodka mag. it will debut in october and the theme will hint at a halloween motif w/o overtly saying “halloween theme”. i’ll tell you the details later. basically i thought of you and i’d like to hire you to do the clothes for the entire spread. i think this would be a great opportunity for both of us, finally. hehe. well if you’re interested i’ll fwd you the email and if you’re still interested after that then let’s get crackin.
on the verge of spontaneous combustion from freebie photoshoots, i’ve completely cleared my slate for august and am focusing all my energy to this assignment. talk to me. bye
always,
p

Cool!
Sounds like you could be in for a big one… Good luck!
Re: Cool!
That’s fantastic!!! I am jealous of you Shrinkle – in a good, friendly way.:) You will go far, you MUST!
Ummm… Is it just me or the soybaby site never works?! Everybody’s talking about how great those pictures are, and I can’t ever get to the front page of the website. lol
Re: Cool!
Patrick says: “yeah my cousin is a fucking fuck. soybaby is actually hosted on his damn computer that sits in the corner of his house. when something goes wrong it’s probably because he forgot to turn it on or just unplugged it. bastard.”
Congrats, Amy!! So are you going to do it? Hey, I just looked at your friend Patrick’s website, and those photos of you are absolutely stunning! I noticed he also credited you as a makeup artist/stylist. Wow, you are so talented, I didn’t know you did anything else but sew clothes!
Of course I’m going to do it! :-D I’m so excited! I’ve worked with Patrick before, and his work is fucking awesome. Man, those pics of me are soooo old! I think they were taken two or three years ago??? I was cranky and PMSing and it was like 11:00 at nite. I wanted to go HOME! If I were a real model, I’d get fired in a SNAP cuz I’ve got such a short attention span and am totally impatient, hahaha!
Not to freak you out or sound like a stalker, but I’ve been watching your auctions since you FIRST got a sewing machine last year! I remember your first auction was for a pair of really badly made arm warmers. You wrote in your description something about how you wanted to learn how to sew and that you were practicing by making arm warmers. That was a year and a half ago, and I thought you sucked BIG time! But a few months later I was looking for skirts and came across your auctions again. I couldn’t believe you were the same fuckin’ girl. Considering how much your sewing used to suck, you’ve really inspired me. I bought my first sewing machine last month and I suck worse than you can imagine, but at least I have something to aspire to, seeing how far YOU’VE gotten in a year! I know I probably sound nuts, but I really wanted to tell you all that because it was really important to me and has affected a lot of things in my own life. I always thought I wanted to go into business/marketing, but now I am looking into going to fashion school. =)
Shit.. that is really one of the sweetest things anyone has EVER said to me, and I mean that! But don’t take me too seriously, I’m not trying to be someone worth aspiring to, BY FAR! I’m just having fun and being silly. Man if you saw me in real life, you’d see what a HUGE dork I am! XOXO Thanks for the comment and the honesty, and good luck with the sewing thing!!! :-)
How insanely awesome is that?! I can’t wait to see what you come up with for this shoot.
OMGosh, HOW EXCITING!!! Congrats and best of luck! Sounds like you’ll be having lots of fun!
ohmygod amy! I just found the “amy doan profile”, good lord! Is he the same guy that took the pics of you on the bed with the dolls?
No, different guy! Kevin (my boyfriend) was actually the one who took the pictures of me with the dolls. Hi, who is this? I’m scared of anonymous posts, haha! XOXO
i am not shitting you, i gasped! when i saw the amy doan profile, and so far i have seen the doll that never collects dust and you just standing there. i dont ever gasp, i gasped, mouth open and all
yay! that makes me super happy. <3 <3 <3
i just had a look at some of those pictures of you. golly. the doll that never collected dust.. i looked at your knees & thought, “i would recognise those anywhere!” you must have the most famous knees in all of ebay.
ew that sounds really dirty! ;-)
hi
that’s so fuckin rad! i can’t wait to see. by the way i’m jenn, you don’t know me but i hope you don’t mind me adding you :) i lovelovelove the stuff you sell on ebay and you seem really interesting & funny.. you must feel famous having so many people know who you are :)
Re: hi
Hi Jenn!! I don’t feel famous… For the most part, I get scared and run, hahaha!
YaY for you!
GO AMY
GO AMY
GO AMY…
*does a little happy dance*
Good luck!
congrats!
ps seen several of your auctions and what do you know? you’re on livejournal!
I know–am I an internet geek or WHAT! haha
well, if you are…you certainly give internet geeks a good image ;)
Hi, i just randomly came across your journal via Fruitsy Auctions…
Wow – you seem like a really interesting person, and your sewing is amazing! Congrats on this assignment!
i sew and make a lot of my own clothes, etc but i can only hope to be as good as you! ^_^
Mind if i add you to my lj friends list?
Of course I don’t mind!!
Do you have a website or link where I can see your clothes? I’m always down to seeing what other chicks are doing! :-D
Thank you! ^_^
i have a website linked through my userinfo which has pics, etc, but i’m just currently producing a new site that will be up in the next day or so *fingers crossed* i’ll be putting a design section in that hopefully! XD
old school amy
(pssst amy, it’s carly, I’m stalking you, tee-hee)Yay for amy! I do my happy monkey dance for you (it involves much arm-flailing and rump-shaking). Soon you’ll be all famous-like, and everyone will want a shrinkle original. I remember when amy first started on ebay, too. She said she was reading the Reader’s Digest Guide to Sewing to learn how to sew. I think that won me over. Do you still remember the first thing I bought from you, way back in the day?
Re: old school amy
Was it that Mona Lisa skirt that you thought the crazy lady across the street stole? Hahaha!!
Re: old school amy
no, but close, that was the second thing. the first thing i got was a skirt with three little dead duckies on it.
Re: old school amy
Holy shit… I remember that! The gauzy white skirt with three felt ducks hahaha! I remember your feedback to me was something along the lines of “The ducks are really dead!” or something like that. Do you still wear that thing?
Re: old school amy
hell yea i still wear that skirt, it kicks so much ass! I added panels at the sides to make it more like an a-line skirt then a pencil skirt, though, and some lace around the bottom. Everytime I wear it, people point at me and go “Ducks!”. The first time someone did that, I actually ducked (such a dork, I am), but I’m used to it now. I just hope I’m never walking down the street one day wearing that skirt and everyone is screaming “Duck” at me, cause some errant wrecking ball is swinging my way, cause I won’t stand a chance.
Hooray for Shrinkle! I know it probably freaks you out getting a thousand posts a day from random ebay fans, but I love your stuff too–you have a great sense of style. Add me to the lists of chicks you’ve inspired to get the sewing machine (back) out and say FUCK the “fashion industry” and the “clothing industry” I’ll make my own.
I think there should be a law that everyone has to make their own clothes and you’re not allowed to buy in stores. That would be fun! But kind of scary…
HAHAHAHA!! You are sooo going to end up in LA!! I know you hate it, but you WILL be a great stylist, and the work is here so, see ya soon!!
–<3 Mars Rust
That’s awesome. You should totally do it. ;)
Amy I am so proud of you! I’ll have to tell my Grandpa ;)
Helloh Shrinkle. I think I have asked you this before… But how did you learn how to sew? Was it just trial and error? I can barely thread the sewing machine…
I wish to make tons of money on eBay reconstructing old crap. :D And I wanna make cute shit!
Oh and what is a serger? :|
Well I took a sewing class in high school, but I pretty much slept through it and got a D-. So that doesn’t count. I’ve been tinkering with the sewing machine off and on since junior high school, but never started making stuff FOR REAL until about a year and a half ago when I got my own sewing machine!! It’s easy to teach yourself how to sew if you just practice a lot on old ugly shirts. You learn from your mistakes pretty quickly and start figuring out what works and what doesn’t. Oh, and I can’t recommend this enough, but I love “The Readers Digest Complet Guide to Sewing!!!”
A serger is like a sewing machine, but it locks all the stitches so that they don’t fray. But with a regular sewing machine, the stitch isn’t stretchy. Sergers can stitch something but keep the fabric stretchy. Kind of like clothes you buy in stores! It’s hard to explain but you’d konw what I mean if you saw it. :-)
JEEZ I keep trying to reply but every time I go back and press the space bar, it fucks up.
Anyway thanks for the tips. I’ll check out that book. :)
Yay! well done you!!! xx
serger
Hi Amy -
Just curious – What brand/model serger would you recommend for a first time purchase? I’ve worked with embroidery and sewing machines, but never a serger. I’m clueless about it!
Re: serger
I use a Babylock Imagine.. and it rocks! It’s totally idiot proof.
Congratulations, Amy.
You know what you need for this shoot? A couple of sexeh customised pvc bracelets! eh? eh?
