Urban Ore Toilet Adventures with Amelia Arsenic

Do you have that one friend who is so artistic, smart, talented and beautiful, that it just doesn’t seem fair? Yet you CAN’T be jealous or hate her because she’s soooo sweet and likable that she’d give you the shirt off her back? So one day you catch her pushing a shopping cart through a yard full of discarded centuries-old toilets, and you decide to take pictures –lots of them– and post them on the internet. BECAUSE IT’S ONLY FAIR THAT WAY! Hey, I’m just doing my fair share to create balance in the world.

Meet Amelia. I recently discovered Urban Ore, my new favorite place to treasure-hunt in Oakland. They sell everything you can possibly wrap your pretty little mind around. We’re always on the lookout for odd photo shoot props, and knew Amelia would appreciate the sheer awesomeness of this place as well.

Kevin’s Santa Cruz Skateboard Reunion and Bieber Fever

Last March, Santa Cruz Skateboards held a reunion at their old headquarters to film a documentary about their company. Being a skateboard artist back in the ’90s was Kevin’s first art job (he did all these!), so he was super nostalgic and excited to be a part of it.

I know nothing about skateboards, so I was banished to the Justin Bieber room.

Kevin revisits his very first office, ie. Jim Phillips’ garage. Wow, someone’s come a long way!

Santa Clara Weekly Interview and Substance Abuse Counseling

My hometown newspaper, The Santa Clara Weekly, ran an interview with me a few weeks ago. I lived there for the first eight years of my life. Wooo Santa Clara! Now I’m feeling nostalgic and want to take a day off and go to Great America. Thanks for the awesome questions, Melissa McKenzie!

And yes, I have seen this Facebook ad. No, I’m not going to report it, because I think it’s kind of amazing. Here’s how I plan to keep you sober: I steal all your drinks.

I Powdered Ron Jeremy’s Face and He Smelled Like Babies

Last October, Brett was asked to direct a porn commercial starring Ron Jeremy. Kevin convinced me to come along and “help,” which pretty much entailed powdering some shiny faces and spending the next 12 hours finishing off half a cheese party platter by myself.

I’ve never seen any of Ron Jeremy’s movies or Surreal Life, so I didn’t walk in with any preconceived notions or expectations. My impression after meeting him was that he’s really funny, professional and sweet, but smelled strongly of baby powder. At the end of the shoot he hugged me goodbye, and the smell lingered on my clothes for days. I suppose there are worse things to smell like than a giant baby, so I’m not complaining. Just sayin’! And while he wasn’t a creep at all, I do remember one point during the night when he asked if “one of the ladies might offer me a hand.” Every female in the room immediately ducked behind the nearest couch/table/plant.
