As much as we love IMATS, we were pleased that the Beauty Social was nothing like it.
Located in the Loews Santa Monica Beach hotel with an oceanfront view, it felt more like a cocktail party for makeup lovers. The crowd was much smaller, so we actually got to hang out with and get to know people we normally speed walk past at IMATS. There were only about 10-20 brands present, and we each had our own pre-built hot pink booth. So no construction, assembly, or van rental required, yay! Instead of doing sales, each booth at the Beauty Social offered free demos and makeovers, while guest speakers and Youtube beauty gurus did their thing onstage. Overall, it was a really fun opportunity to interact with you guys!
Cute Sabi was one of the guest speakers. I LOVE Britney Spears, don’t hate!
I’m starting to think Lauren and I missed our true calling in life as supermodels.
Mynxii and Yume working the Sugarpill booth
We met Patrice from Afrobella. She is the sweetest, warmest person and so cute.
OH MY GODDDD I was especially excited to meet Christine of Temptalia because I was starting to wonder if she really existed! She’s like the biggest beauty blogger ever, yet no one had ever met her nor seen her at any makeup shows or events. Even when we both lived in San Jose we never ran into each other, and when I asked her where she hangs out she was all mysterious-like. But then again, it could just be because a stranger was asking her where she hangs out, ha! Christine says I make her sound like Bigfoot. But you guys, she’s REAL! I saw her with my own eyes and have photographic evidence! (Until researchers discover these photographs are a hoax)
Christine, Leesha and Suzy
Look how long Leesha’s legs are, geez!! I want to practice posing like that so I can be all model-like too.
Suzy having the time of her life swatching our new colors. Weeee!!
Jasmyne and Marissa of The Balm. They are located in the Bay Area too. I’ve known Jasmyne since we were kids going to all-ages punk shows at the teen center! Look at her all grown up and pretty.
Magical makeovers by Mynxii! Photo stolen from Beautylish.
Me, Kevin and Yume pretending to be busy
It’s always nice to run into Celestine. She’s so fun and bubbly!
Emy and Robin
You so pretty!
Seriously the best post-makeover picture of all time. This makes me so happy!
I HATE my dumb pose here, but my face looks okay so it stays.
Big screen Leesha!
Check out our fancy slideshow. Technology!
The VIP reception afterward was a magical wonderland of cupcakes, fancy cheeses, and wine. Beautylish sure knows how to treat a lady! This is Lauren’s fine dining face.
We are good at being grownups.
Pretty ladies Mynxii, Temptalia (she’s real!), Lauren
We found this strip of hot pink note paper on the ground, which we presume someone tried to pass off as a VIP wristband. Real sly! Not.
I added the writing to it because I’m smart. Bet it’ll work now!
Beauty Social, Day 2! Mynxii, Kandee and Ellie, me
I love how we camouflage into the background. Hey, where’d our bodies go?!
I don’t remember who took this picture or what I was doing. But here it is!
This girl was ridiculously cute. I can’t remember exactly how old she was, but she was in her teens and we were all jealous that we didn’t look this stylin’ when we were her age. Shut up, I LIKED my silver vinyl pants and 99-cent makeup!
Lots of cuties got makeovers on Sunday.
Love this girl and her little cowboy boots!
Julie says hello
Cute-ass style inspiration.
Kandee and her mom stopped by. They are such nice folks!
Kandee’s beautiful mama gets a makeover
Oh my god, are we seriously all wearing hot pink against a hot pink backdrop? Thankfully Kandee’s mama saved the day by making this photo less seizure-inducing!
Queen of Napping
Lauren just can’t take a nap without getting hounded by paparazzi! “Lauren, do tell us! What’s your secret to looking so good while napping?”
Brown Girl Beauty panel featuring Afrobella
Awwww x 100000!!
MYNXII! YOU GUYS ARE WEARING MATCHING OUTFITS. Day made.
Claire Wineland was one of the guest speakers. She’s a pretty cool cat!
Julie discovers our secret behind-the-scenes sandwich hide-out!
Temptalia on the beauty blogging career panel
Billy B is nice.
Things started to slow down towards the end of the day. I decided it was time to introduce my newest business venture, Portraits by Amy. Christine was my first victim.
Each masterpiece is lovingly hand drawn on a stolen notepad using a ballpoint pen, Q-tips, and makeup from the tester display. The finished piece is so lifelike that the subject is often unable to tell herself apart from the drawing.
I’m pretty sure I’d had a few drinks by the time I got to Lauren’s. Errr, I mean, the world’s finest pens simply cannot capture the Gween of Beauty’s essence.
I asked Mynxii, “Wanna sneak to the hotel bar and do a shot real quick? But don’t tell anyone, because I don’t want to look unprofessional.” Several days later, we found this picture, apparently taken by Beautylish’s event photographer, posted on their site for the whole world to see how professional, awesome and discreet we are.
